How to get people out of their cars?

UITP is organising a Conference on ‘How to get people out of their cars’.

In Europe, the road transport sector is responsible for over half of all NOx emissions, and 72% of the EU’s 27% total GHG emissions attributable to transport. These emissions have serious consequences on the health of citizens, as 400,000 premature deaths per year are attributable to air pollution. Likewise, the predicted impacts of climate change are expected to increase mortality rates in the foreseeable future. The organisation of transport modes not only shapes and structures urban space, but it also impacts people’s living conditions, influencing their choices and lifestyles.

If cities are to remain livable in the coming decades, a modal shift has to be achieved in favour of more sustainable transport modes. So how can we get European citizens out of their cars?
