K2 CaliConnect – a transatlantic innovation bridge for integrating autonomous vehicles and public transport
K2 CaliConnect is a transatlantic collaboration platform between Sweden and California aimed at integrating the next generation of autonomous vehicles (AVs) into the public transport system. By sharing experiences in standardized data exchange, Curb Side Management, and digital policy, the project develops and validates frameworks for how robotaxis and other self-driving services can be steered toward societal benefit.
The development of self-driving vehicles is moving rapidly from pilot projects to large-scale commercial operation, with California at the forefront. At the same time, there are no globally established models for data sharing and digital governance between private AV operators and public actors. K2 CaliConnect builds on a Step 1 project that, during spring 2026, established contact with UC Berkeley DRIVE AI and the Open Mobility Foundation (OMF), and now takes the next step toward a structured collaboration.
