Information-based Disturbance Management for Public Transport
The environmental challenges facing the world today have increased awareness of different transport options and their respective consequences. In this context, public transport is often seen as an important tool for achieving greater sustainability. However, public transport must be both accessible and reliable if people are to choose it over the private car as their preferred mode of transport. This is not always the case today.
This report examines what information and communication are lacking during disruptions to public transport in southern Sweden. The study includes interviews with the stakeholders concerned, a literature review and analysis. Both the perspectives of stakeholders and passengers are taken into account.
Based on the findings of the study, a number of potential solutions are presented and discussed. In particular, a passenger check-in system and a shared information system for all public transport stakeholders in the region are proposed. The check-in system would enable better information and services for passengers, while the shared information system would facilitate more efficient information sharing between stakeholders.
