Robert Westerdahl: The Rail + Property Model to Finance Public Transport

K2-konferens 2015: New Ways of Financing Public Transport (2015)

Robert Westerdahl of MTR argues that public transport has significant value-creation potential. Every weekday, 250,000 people pass through T-Centralen in Stockholm, while 141,000 pass through Slussen. That is considerably more than the number of people passing through Stockholm Arlanda Airport (52,000) and Copenhagen Airport in Kastrup (64,000). Having shops at stations, as at airports, would make life easier for commuters. It would also make public transport more attractive, according to Robert Westerdahl.
