IMPACT-1

IMPACT-1

Project IMPACT-1 is a pilot project that will eventually assess the societal effects of the many activities in Shift2Rail. Shift2rail is a huge investment in rail research and innovation implemented within the framework of Horizon 2020.

The Swedish research group in IMPACT-1 works with three different work packages.

In the first work package, the rail sector is to be studied at the same time as relevant societal goals are to be defined. Many goals are contradictory today, dealing with sustainability, growth, regional integration, competitiveness and cities worth living in. The researchers will use literature studies, interviews with experts and workshops.

In the second work package, specifications for transport models will be developed to quantify at a later stage the socio-economic impact of technology development taking place in Shift2Rail, especially the impact on the choice of vehicles.

In the third research project, the overall goals within Shift2Rail will be measured through a key figure model. The approach is to find relevant key figures for the technical demonstrators developed within Shift2Rail, and to show how the expected results in key target areas within Shift2Rail are achieved.

IMPACT-1 is led by the German research institute DLR (Forschungszentrum der Bundesrepublik Deutschland für Luft- und Raumfahrt).
