Malin is interested in power aspects of travel and planning. Her research is primarily qualitative and addresses social sustainability and justice, the opportunities for children and young people to influence the transport system, and the everyday mobility of different social groups. Recent projects focus on transport poverty in vulnerable areas, cycling among low-income individuals, and the working environment of bus drivers.

Malin is an associate professor in Gender Studies at Linköping University.
