Pilots for transforming the transport sector through energy efficient buildings

Pilots for transforming the transport sector through energy efficient buildings

Urban test labs and pilots are methods for generating innovative and energy efficient solutions. In this project, the design of residential buildings that increase energy efficiency by creating incentives for sustainable passenger transport such as bicycle, public transport and smart mobility, will be analysed. Two pilots will be followed: “biking dwelling” pilots, designed for increased usage of bicycles, and pilots for shared travelling through integrated mobility solutions (MaaS). The project contributes with increased knowledge of (1) the prerequisites for pilots to be initiated, (2) how the results can scale up and generate long-term changes, and where the scale up also includes (3) making the housing available to all groups in society and not just certain segments. The research project maps international experiences and follows two private actors' work in developing pilots in three Swedish municipalities, in which some dwellings are in the planning stage and some are completed.
